Taxi jumps red light causing three car accident in Orange Grove

On Friday (21 September) at approximately 17:30 the driver of a taxi is suspected to have jumped a red light at an intersection on Louis Botha Avenue in Orange Grove and collided with three vehicles in the process.
As the taxi entered the intersection, it collided with a VW Polo turning at the intersection. The taxi driver then lost control of the vehicles and smashed into a VW Golf3 and a First Road tow truck.

Terence Teixeira from the Matrix Road Safety Association arrived on the scene and reported that the driver of the Vw Polo was injured and in a critical condition. “The taxi driver was trapped in the vehicle and the Johannesburg Fire Department had to cut him out. A passenger in the taxi also sustained serious injuries and both patients required Advanced Life Support treatment from the paramedics,” he says.
The driver in the VW Polo and other passengers in the taxi were treated by Emer-G-Med Paramedics and other ambulance services that arrived on the scene to assist. The Johannesburg Metro Police are investigating the accident.

“Too often we see accidents at intersections and drivers need to be aware that when they are approaching an intersection they are entering a high-risk zone. Always approach an intersection with caution and try and anticipate what other drivers are doing,” advises Teixeira.
