This year, MiX Telematics participated in Mandela Day at their offices in Midrand, by supporting the Matla A Bana charity, a national organisation and charity project initiated and managed by the Callie and Monique Strydom Charity Trust.
The Callie and Monique Trust was founded upon the return of Callie and Monique Strydom after a 4-month hostage ordeal in Asia. At the end of 2002, Monique Strydom was asked to chair a task team that investigated child rape in South Africa. A need for an organisation which could address all grey areas in the child protection system in South Africa arose and the Strydom Trust undertook to address this need.
One of their direct impact projects, include victim support. They provide comfort packs to the abused children which include comfort items like teddies, toys, snacks and hygiene packs. These packs are given to victims by the police detectives, which have resulted in quick disclosures by the victims. This has resulted in fast arrests and much quicker medical help to victims.

The MiX Telematics’s KZN team assisted The LEARN Project by covering 240 books in protective plastic. The LEARN Project is a non-profit trust that reaches out to South African schools and children in need. Their goal is to equip these schools with books and to create sustainable libraries and classroom book corners. The books will be given to two disadvantaged schools, who will each receive their first classroom book corners. Dumasi Primary School and Scambeni Primary Schools are situated in the heart of rural Transkei.
